Making fake blood

I researched this on youtube with the following videos.

This video is of me making the blood.

As I was unable to find corn syrup in my kitchen so I used video 2. My corn syrup was not thick enough and I should have used less paint. Another issue I encountered was that red dye stains a lot (a problem I had encountered with home made play-do). As a result I decided to make my red colour with water based paints. The only disadvantage is the it is not edible and I will have to be more careful when applying the fake blood to my actors.
